Michael Murphy of Patchogue NY lifeguarded at the Town of Brookhaven beach located on Lake Ronkonkoma during his summers home from Penn State~The beach was renamed in his honor May 7 2006. May 7 2008 a ceremony took place dedicating the memorial Serenity Plaza in memory of Lt Michael Murphy and the heroes killed on June 28 2005 Operation Red Wings. The Secretary of the Navy also announced the naming of the USS Michael Murphy - The DDG112 will be commissioned on 10/6/2012 in NYC Harbor.
